Eco-Friendly Mold Remediation

What is Eco-Friendly Mold Remediation?

While the idea of “Eco-Friendly Mold Removal” is always evolving, to us, it simply means only using natural materials, in the least environmentally impactfully way, to clean your space and remove mold from your home. Using a chemical free, fully sustainable, remediation process is the keystone to our Mold Removal practices. We use soda blasting for our physical removal of material. This process uses sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) which is water soluble, biodegradable and produces less waste then conventional remediation practices. As well, we only use natural, hydrogen peroxide-based antimicrobial ingredients in our fumigation process. It is very important to us that our process is safe for you, your children and your pets. As a company, we are always looking for ways to be minimally impactful in all our business practices and will continue to evolve as we serve our communities.

How Mold Is Removed

Containment is Set

The first step in the removal process is to set containment around the work area. This includes using plastic sheeting to contain any mold spores disturbed during the remediation process and setting up and running Hepa air scrubbers. This process ensure the safest environment for both the home owner and our hard working technicians.

Mold is Removed

Once the area is fully contained, mold removal begins. All materials that cannot be returned to their original, uncontaminated state (drywall, insulation, etc.), are removed, bagged and discarded. Any materials, that can be restored, are soda blasted, using sodium bicarbonate, to physically remove any mold growth. With soda blasting, we are able to remove all colonized mold, even in hard to reach areas that conventional remediation practices may not be able to access. Sodium Bicarbonate is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water helps dry out moist environments making it a valuable tool in preventing future mold growth. As well, because of it alkaline properties, Sodium Bicarbonate is very effective in killing colonized mold which prefers an acidic environment.

Anti-Microbial Fumigation

Once all colonized mold is physically removed, the next step in the remediation process is to disperse an aerosol Anti-Microbial solution. This is where the largest difference between conventional and Eco-Friendly removal processes occur. In conventional removal processes, a chemical antifungal spray is used. In our process, an equally effective, all natural solution is used. Our solution is hydrogen peroxide based and includes vinegar, grapefruit seed extract and tee tree oil, all of which are antifungal. By utilizing the fumigation process, we are able to ensure that we kill all spores that remain in the space, preventing future mold growth.

Solving the “Why”

As we work hard to ensure mold will not return to any space we treat, the final step in the remediation process is to solve the “why”. Why was mold there in the first place? As mold will not grow without a source of moisture, it is vital to understand and correct that source. Our technicians will work with you to find the source of the moisture and present you with options to remove it permanently. Often times the solution is simple and quite affordable. Unlike other companies, we promise not to fit your problem into our solution but rather we will work our solutions to fit your problem. We know, who does business like that?
